Ahora disponible, el 7mo número de la popular serie “Cuadernos monográficos / Dossier Carlos Victoria”, es el resultado de la coordinación y profesionalismo de la profesora y ensayista Emilia Sánchez Herrera, amiga desde la adolescencia del autor monografiado.  El número en cuestión reúne impresiones y análisis a cargo de personas, algunos residentes en la isla, otros en el exilio, que conocieron o trabajaron junto a C. V. Dos importantes narradores que conocieron y trataron de cerca al autor luego de su salida  de Cuba, le dedican sendos relatos. Son ellos José Abreu Felippe, vinculado a la llamada “Generación del Mariel” a la que Carlos pertenece, y Benigno Nieto, que corresponde al grupo de autores surgidos en Cuba, circa 1960, en torno a la revista Lunes de Revolución, dirigida por Guillermo Cabrera Infante. Se reproducen igualmente entrevistas al escritor, y unas impresiones de éste sobre los hechos del Mariel y su participación en el éxodo de este nombre, en compañía de su madre, escritas diez años después de ocurridos los hechos. La propia coordinadora del número revela la condición de poeta del autor, ampliamente conocido por su prosa. Otros trabajos corresponden a Luis de la Paz, Emilio de Armas, Rolando Morelli, Rafael Zequeira y José Rodríguez Lastra entre otros. El número recoge testimonios fotográficos y reproduce dos cartas de puño y letra del autor estudiado, una de las cuales da cuenta de su decisión de suicidarse. Un número único por la calidad de las colaboraciones, y la singularidad humana de los testimonios recogidos en él, que no debería faltar en las bibliotecas de estudiosos y deseosos de conocer el proceso de creación de un genuino creador surgido con la revolución cubana de 1959, y los altibajos de su vida en conflicto con ese mismo proceso, hasta el momento de escapar de la isla, cuando se presenta por primera vez el desafío de aprender a vivir y escribir en libertad.

Dossier Carlos Victoria, is the 7th edition in the popular series, “Cuadernos mongráficos.” It is the culmination of the editorial efforts of Emilia Sánchez Herrera, professor and essayist, who had been a life-long friend of Carlos Victoria. This edition brings together impressions and analyses from scholars both living in Cuba and in exile from the island, and who either worked closely with Carlos Victoria or knew him quite well. Two important writers in the latter group, and who had maintained close ties with him after his leaving Cuba, have each dedicated a short story to him, both of which appear in this addition. They are José Abreu Felippe, member of the “Mariel Generation” to which Carlos belongs, and Benigno Nieto, who was part of the group of writers that emerged in Cuba around 1960, as a result of their work for the magazine Lunes de Revolución, headed by Guillermo Cabrera Infante. There are also transcripts of interviews with the author, as well as his account of the Mariel exodus, experienced with his mother, and which was written 10 years after the event. Emilia Sánchez Herrera, the editor, reveals in her article that In addition to being a well-recognized prose writer, Carlos Victoria is an a accomplished poet. There are works by Luis de la Paz, Emilio de Armas, Rolando Morelli, Rafael Zequeira y José Rodríguez Lastra among others. The edition has reproductions of photos of the writer’s life and of hand-written letters, one of which reveals his suicide decision. The quality of the collaborators and the extraordinary humanity of the testimonials collected therein make this a unique volume that is an essencial addition to the library of any scholar interested in the imaginative process of a creative genius that extends from its emergence out of the 1959 Cuban Revolution, to his life’s ups and downs in the face of that calamity, and continuing up to his eventual escape from the island. when he confronts the challenge of learning to live and write with freedom.
