Pedro el Mugroso y sus amigos contra Juan el Zorro y sus compinches

A Pedro el mugroso no le gusta el agua, o más precisamente, le repugna bañarse como todo el mundo. Por esta causa, al principio del relato no cuenta con amigos, y la gente suele rehuirlo por no aguantarse el mal olor y el aspecto descuidado de Pedro. Es tal la intensidad de las emanaciones que brotan de su cuerpo, que llegan a marchitarse las hojas de los árboles más vigorosos que encuentra en su camino. Un encuentro fortuito con la lluvia le enseña a Pedro finalmente, el aprecio por la higiene. Luego hace amigos con facilidad y aprecian todos sus demás cualidades, salvo por el falso amigo Juan el zorro (y los compinches de éste), cuyas triquiñuelas consiguen engañar a Pedro y crear el caos, mediante el cual medran a sus anchas. Al final del relato, aconsejado por el sabio don Cenáculo Pedro busca la ayuda de su amiga la lluvia, y se le unen además un grupo de amigos, quienes consiguen con ingenio y determinación salvar la situación, y ponen en fuga al pícaro de Juan el zorro y sus cómplices. Una deliciosa aventura pródiga de fantasía, aunque plantada en la verosimilitud de la realidad, al alcance de niños, jóvenes y adultos por igual.

Pedro el Mugroso is not fond of water, specifically; he has an aversion to bathing. Because of this, at the beginning of the story he has no friends since everyone keeps a safe distance from him in order to escape the malodorous smell that is an inevitable result of his neglect. The stench wafting from his body is so intense that even the heartiest leaves on the trees shrivel up as he passes. A fortuitous encounter with the Rain instills in Pedro a true appreciation for good hygiene. After this, he can easily make friends, who now are able to recognize his other qualities. But a false friend, Juan the Fox, along with the latter’s accomplices, contrive a plot to trick Pedro. A hoax that sends the world spinning into an ever-expanding, filthy chaos. At story’s end, Pedro, following the advice of the wise Don Cenáculo, seeks the help of his friend, the Rain, and along with the assistance of a group of true friends and their collective determination and ingenuity, they all manage to rescue the situation and send Juan the Fox and his fellow scoundrels high-tailing it away. The tale is a deliciously lavish adventure of fantasy with plausible associations to reality, a narrative accessible to children, adolescents and adults alike.
